"Thank You Card" Fun Drawing Contest

Families of Special Olympics (SO) Athletes form one of the largest groups of volunteers and supporters of the SO movement all over the world. Here in Malaysia, the Family Support Network is in its early stages and participation in 4 states only. It is our hope to expand the Family Network
to all states within Malaysia with a SO State Program.

As one of our first events, the FSN organised a THANK YOU Card Fun Drawing Contest in late August 2021. Invitations were sent to athletes all over Malaysia who are currently based at home due to the pandemic to send in a piece of artwork to showcase their talent. Three independent
judges were appointed to choose the winners.

"The highlight of our Fun Drawing Contest was the Award Ceremony hosted virtually via Zoom and Facebook Live. The contest attracted entries from Sabah, Sarawak, Selangor, Penang, Johor and Kuala Lumpur. Participants, along with their parents, teachers, friends, and families came together
to celebrate this momentous occasion on16th September, Malaysia Day.

The Master of Ceremony started the show with a warm "Hari Malaysia" greeting and a reminder to give thanks for our health and safety amid the pandemic.

The 1st prize winners of the three age groups were interviewed with their parents. They shared their joy of winning and their appreciation to FSN SOM for organizing the event. Performances were kicked off by siblings, Aidan She and his brother Jun Wei on piano and violin, followed by balloon sculpting by Brian Lim, and finally, a dance routine by Marina Frohlich.

There were many encouraging and congratulatory messages on the chat box and it was incredibly heart-warming to see so many happy faces in one space. We are immensely proud of our participants and glad that the event was a successful one indeed."

We hope that this successful little start will spur the team on to organise more events and many more parents, siblings and relatives will join the Family Support Network as we work together for the Athletes and SOM. I end with this quote from a mother:
