After 4 days of centralised training in Melaka for the Berlin World Games, Head of Delegation Dr. Siva is optimistic of Team Malaysia’s medal chances.

A delegation of 39 coaches, officials, and athletes representing Malaysia at the Special Olympics World Games 2023 successfully completed centralised training in Melaka last weekend. The World Games is set to take place in Berlin, Germany from June 17th to June 25th, 2023.


During the centralised training in Melaka, some of the 16 intellectually disabled (ID) athletes and their six unified partners met for the first time since the National Games 2022 to practice for team events like the 100m relay and badminton mixed doubles, as well as unified team events such as bocce unified doubles, badminton unified doubles, and bowling.


Dr. Sivanesan a/l Govindasamy from Perak leads Team Malaysia to Berlin as head of delegation, with Bong Koi Sin from Melaka serving as the assistant head of delegation.


Dr. Sivanesan shared that the Special Olympics World Games is an all-inclusive sporting event with participation from 170 countries worldwide. "So, when you win gold at this world game, you are a true world champion." He shared this during a ceremony to welcome KBS Deputy Minister YB Adam Adli, who visited the centralised training in Melaka.


In a brief speech, YB Adam Adli acknowledged the immense challenges that the athletes face to represent the nation at an international level, especially at a sporting event like the Special Olympics. He also recognised the skill, experience, and patience required for the athletes of different abilities to work together as a unified team for the badminton, bowling, and bocce events.


Before departing for Berlin, the delegation will meet once again in KL for a send-off ceremony expected to be graced by the presences of KBS Minister YB Hannah Yeoh, and also sporting personalities and legends.

Healthy Athletes “Opening Eyes” & “Special Smiles” discipline was conducted today (29 Apr 2023) as part of Team Malaysia centralised training Melaka from 28 Apr to 1 May 2023 at Manipal University College Melaka (MUCM).

This screening session is a joint efforts by Faculty of Dentistry UM and MUCM in support of Team Malaysia preparing for Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023.
Thanks to all the Clinical Directors, students and volunteers from MUCM and UM.

诗巫特殊奥林匹克运动员张慧信将代表大马，出征于今年6月份在德国柏林举办2023年世界特殊奥林匹克运动会（Special Olympics)，为大马争荣誉。

砂拉越邦州有3名特奥运动员被选为这次大马团队，其中一位是女乒乓运动员张慧信，另一位是古晋的保龄球选手和美里的游泳项目的特奥选手.


现年14岁张慧信是诗巫特殊奥林匹克乒乓选手，她极有天赋的运动员，去年为参加区域赛便在4月份展开密集训练备战，皇天不负有心人，不但获好成绩，也在同年12月全砂赛交出优异成绩，更是首次代表砂州。于2022年8月在马六甲主办的大马特殊奥林匹克运动会为砂州争一金二银：女双打金牌；单打赛和混双赛银牌，并委选为大马代表队，出征每四年举办一次的世界特奥会。

赛会今日开始至27日在马六甲马来女子师训学院体育场举行。参赛队伍来自马六甲、吉打、霹雳、槟城、吉隆坡、雪兰莪、柔佛、沙巴和砂拉越，6个运动项目是田径、地掷球、保龄球、羽毛球、乒乓球和水上运动.


大会邀请该学院副院长拿汀诺茜达博士开幕。
